Discussion:
Taylor Hyd. assisted Brakes

Hi all I am new to Forklift action. I have an issue with one of the lifts that I have started servicing. It is a Taylor M#Y17-WOF S#S-21-13756. The brakes are in good shape but the power assist from the Hydrualics is causing them to hesitate and then you can hear the pressure build up just before they grab. This unit has an Accumulator for the brakes that I found had lost the pressure on the bladder Nitrogen side. I refilled it with Nitrogen and it worked just fine for about a month, when it started acting up again I checked it I found the nitrogen had leaked past the bladder. So I replaced the Accumulator and checked to make sure it had enough pressure (450psi). But the unit is still doing the same thing. Do I need more pressure or is it something in the Hydrualic system. When you press down on the brake pedal you hear a hissing sound under the control valve and then the brakes finally grab.
Any suggestions would be very welcome thanks

Hotrod, Give us a call at the number above or email or get us a fax number. We have some info on that system that might help you. One thing you said, the precharge for the 2788-970 accumulator should be 1000 psi. At the 450 when you actuate the brakes you may not have enough reserve for them and you are trying to supply oil through an orifice from the pump which could be causing the hissing. Of course you may have a weak pump also. Bottom the steering and check your pressure should be 1700 - 1800 psi.
Let us know if we can help.
