Drive tire studs broke off

RC 5500 drive wheel studs broke off.
How do you remove the spindle off the drive unit in order to replace the studs?
It's a spline shaft fit. How to remove it? Is there a special tool required?
There are five notched areas. I have a three jawed puller that will not evenly fit in the five notched area. Do they make a puller that has five jaws to fit in these notches? Thanks

Crown does make a special tool to fix this however it is possible to do it without.

Probably easier just to change out the whole sub-assembly. As mentioned by some other techs here, they are a bear to remove even with the tool. Sub-assembly can be replaced in about an hour. Taking the sub assembly apart will eat up quite a few man hours!

They are the same as the SC5200, There is a special puller you can buy from Crown but I just made my own, they are as tight as to remove man, very tight!!!

it's been a long time since I worked on that crown model; If you have the service manual look in the parts breakdown.

you'll need to remove the drive unit subassembly, the bolts for the subassembly are easy to access once the drive wheel is removed.

be sure to drain out the gear oil, the drain and fill plugs are facing outboard, you can see them once the drive wheel is removed.
