Discussion:
Replace Hydraulic and steer motor brushes

Hi,

I am trying to change the Hydraulic and steer motor brushes. It seems they are really awkward to do. Is there a certain way you have to do these? as the steer motor brushes are really hard to removed as they are connected via wires and very hard to get out the motor. And also the hydraulic brushes 3 are easy in situ but the last one is right next the counterweight and even when removing the nuts from the bracket it seems near on impossible to get to the last one. The pump hoses are very very tight and was hoping that i do not have to try and remove these as there will be quite a lot of oil leakage.

Changing hydraulic and steer motor brushes can be a challenging task, but there are certain ways to make it easier. To remove the steer motor brushes, you may need to disconnect the wires and use a special tool to access and remove them. As for the hydraulic brushes, try to use a flexible extension to reach the last one next to the counterweight. If the pump hoses are too tight, you can try to loosen them just enough to access the brush, but be sure to have a bucket or container to catch the oil leakage. Remember to wear protective gear and follow the manufacturer's instructions for your safety. Good luck!

You don't need to remove counterweight to lift out steer motor or hydraulic motor, it is quite fiddly but the do come out.

I never remove them to do brushes, just simply unscrew the two bolts that hold the top hat of the motor on, remove field wires and spin the top hat around so you can access the difficult brushes then spin it back and refit cables.

If you lose your Hydraulics and steering it is your pump that is bad. it took us two (2) months to get from Crown. it is easy to remove the counterweight with a pallet jack. Not it is not the motor but it is the pump that is out.
