Discussion:
Starter Issues

Hello All,

I'm having an intermittent starter issues with our lift (C500-40). Last year the starter was intermittently spinning very fast like it wasn't engaging. That problem was with a rebuild. Now the new issues it that sometimes it just won't spin. When you turn the the key you can hear the starter relay click but no noise from the starter itself. It might sit for a day or two and then suddenly starter working. I'd love to give the thing a good wack like I used to do on my jeep but there's just not enough room for that. The battery is good and charged. What's the best way for me to proceed with testing things? Could this just be a wiring issue? Is it possibly just an issue with the solenoid? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Tyler

It was a wiring issue. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Check to see if the S terminal on the solenoid is getting at least 10 volts when you try to start it. If not there is a wiring problem. The wire harness plug under the floor plate has problems on those models. If the solenoid is getting at least 10 volts and is not turning on the starter, then there is something wrong with the starter and/or solenoid.

Fact of the week
Funerals in Spain typically occur within 24 to 48 hours of death, whereas in other European countries they wait one or more weeks. This rapid timeframe is a cultural norm grown from the past need to manage the warm climate without modern embalming.
