Discussion:
Shut off Solenoid

Hello, I have an old Linde forklift Model H40D. Serial # 352f1001340, Has a Perkings 1004.4 I use around the shop. Works good but about 6 months ago I was using it to re-roof back part of the shop. As I lifted last batch of R panel, it cut off. Has been sitting since. Couple of years back I replaced the shut off solenoid with a Fuel Shutoff Solenoid 7167-620D 7185-900T. I have just ordered another one.

Replaced the aftermarket lift pump, and my wiring is junk. Maybe my ignition switch and the inline switch to the cut off solenoid are bad. There are some relays under the dash. I don't require fancy wiring and wanted to run a hot wire to a new ignition switch. From there to the 12 V lift pump. Also a wire to a toggle switch in line then to the positive side of the fuel cut off solenoid. This way I could crank the motor with the pump running then open the cut off solenoid with this inline switch after the fuel line was pressured up.

Will this work? Don't know if constant 12 V to the cut off solenoid while operating the forklift will mess up the cut off solenoid.

Once I have fuel to and through the injector pump, next step if it doesn't run, is to see if the injector needs replacing or rebuilding. At this point, I'm not getting fuel to the injectors. Motor will fire with starter fluid. Thanks for any help you can provide me. Joe.

O.K., This solenoid has two contacts on it so I assume that one is a positive and other is negative. Thanks. Joe

Hello. There are some stop solenoids that require a 12V signal during the time the starter motor turns, and then require another signal from the alternator. If this is your engine, what you want to do will not work. But if the stop coil simply works with one positive and one negative wire, you will have no problem leaving it running while you need the engine to be running. To turn off the engine, simply cut off the 12v signal.

Thanks all!
When I was in business one of our mechanics diagnosed a diesel no start cause to be a bad injector pump. We brought the pump to a diesel repair center and advised that the pump was no good. His response was that he never heard of a bad pump causing an engine not to start and from then on neither did I. We had many repaired because of leaks though.

"really you have never heard of an injector pump causing a no start problem?"

I really wondered about this comment too, just didn't say anything. I'll start with replacing the cut off solenoid.

Will replace the shut off solenoid as soon as it gets here. Live out in the boondocks and parts are not readily available. Thanks. Joe.

Sorry, but I've never heard of an injector pump causing an engine not to start either. Most of the issues with pumps are leaks but the engine would still start.

I didn't say the injectors were the cause of the engine not starting. I think it's either the shut off solenoid or the injector pump being bad. My question was whether the rewiring I wanted to do would work. I have diesel to the fuel filter but not getting to the injectors. Thanks for your info.

Why don't you just fix it correctly??
The OEM lift pump is mechanical and not very expensive. I have never seen injectors be the cause of an engine not starting.

Bluetooth is named after the 10th-century Viking king, Harald Bluetooth, who united warring tribes in Denmark and Norway. In 1997, Jim Kardach from Intel gave the name to the technology because of its ability to unite different communication protocols, just as Harald united various tribes.
