Just got in a 20MT Walkie Truck. 130" mast Semi-Industrial model with 4 brand new Crown batteries. Made 12/1996. Serial # 1A177967. The four 6v batteries are Crown # CR-235 batteries. And it is SLOW, very slow. Only the mast goes up/down at the normal speed. There is a definite "electrical" smell from the motor area. So maybe we have a nearly burned out motor.

But first, I'm not sure we're using the right charger on this. Called Crown Lift, and their tech guy wasn't 100% sure if it uses a 12v charger or a 24v charger. He said to reply on the local dealer. They think it should be a 12v charger. Thing is, the truck came with a 24v charger, which sure gets those batteries gassing good. But I don't want to fry anything or damage the new batteries. So trying a 30A 12V charger, and the truck is still slow.

I would like to know definitively if this machine should be using a 12v or a 24v charger. The 20MT has that "boosted" voltage system for high speed, where it switches from 12v to 24v at a certain range of the twist control.

But what is it wired to charge at? Being a semi-industrial model, it came from the factory as an External Charged truck. It came with a MAC Patriot 24v charger # 1240 Model. But the local Crown Lift guys are thinking I shouldn't use it.

Anybody can shed some definitive light on this?

Thanks, Max
