15,000 to 20,000 hours and beyond are possible for a current Toyota model (7 series and up). However, the answer I believe you should be looking for in your comparison is what will it cost to obtain and maintain a Toyota forklift. The economic life cycle brings both of the previous responses to bear. For the first 10,000 hours of use I would suggest you use a cost per hour to run of about 75 cents/hour (excluding fuel costs, operator wages, accidental damage, and capitalization costs). This would include PM's at 200-hour intervals, tires, and all other maintenance. From 10,000 hours to 20,000 hours I would suggest using $1.25/hour per above listed inclusions and exclusions. From 20,000 to 30,000 hours and beyond I would estimate $1.75/hour.

If you use the Toyota forklift for 1,000 hours/year your economic life is probably 15 years (That is about $13,750 in maintenance). If you use the Toyota forklift 3,000 hours/year you would run the same $13,750 in 5 years. Before you think that is a high expense remember you probably spent $22,000 in fuel and $130,000 in operator wages over the same 5 years.

One caveat though, I would never quote my customer any numbers based on the little bit of information you provided. What I am giving you is the concept of life cycle costs that should be considered for the Toyota forklift and the AGV. Justification for the use of a side loader is normally savings in square footage of building costs anyway. I guarantee that the side loader will be much, much more expensive to obtain and maintain that a Toyota forklift. Good Luck!!
