We have just delivered a number of Hyster ride on pallet trucks with Li Ion batteries. 300AH and flat to full charge in 90 minutes. The battery is Midac brand and came as OEM fitment.

One characteristic of Lithium batteries is their relatively light weight, which is not an advantage in forklifts if the battery is designed to be part of the counterbalance.

How would these work over a 24- 7 shift pattern. How many batteries per truck. Does the charger use more electricity and what is the warranty and cost prices compared to normal lead acid battery and chargers. Would they cope with running 18 hours per day over 3 shifts
Check out BYD forklifts batteries, they are Lithium Iron phosphate which is totally safe and certified so, if you check out youtube you will see that the cells undergo full testing including overcharging, over discharging, fire test, impact and penetration tests, its is lithium polymer that is not so safe, we have some machines in the filed on test with no issues to date and the operators like them.
Full charge from flat in less than two hours and the ability to opportune charge makes them great for multi shift applications.
well the mfg's may be trying to force lithium batteries onto the market saying they are the best but i've seen them burst into flames while charging. So with that said there's no way i'd trust that technology. Lithium is highly unstable imo, so no matter how they say they have it put together i'll never trust it.
With all the past history of laptop and cellphone batteries exploding and bursting into flames i'm shocked that these companies would even consider making one on this large scale for lift trucks.
From my perspective Lithium is currently the best choice when it comes to heavy trucks. You can pull much more energy from a lithium Battery compared to standard industry batteries. Because of the higher current you can also also increase gradeability and topspeed.
There are several models on the market now and more to come from all sorts of manufacturers.

there is a reason no one has built lithium batteries for large scale like what is used in industrial lifts.
the cost, and being unstable and dangerous when charging are the first things that come to mind about lithium batteries.
even in a small scale they are not that great and can be dangerous while charging.
lithium is too unstable for any viable application on a large scale such as industrial batteries.
