Discussion:
just puked

I do not use my forklift often, have some vaporizer troubles with questionable fuel tanks. But last two weeks started fine, then for christmas, got 3 pallets to unload, it started, died. Try to restart and its just no compression turning, almost sounded like the starter was not even engaging, but verified the fan is turning when it is spinning. Figured something in the ignition just went out, but when I get to the fuel valve under the vaporizer, there is only 5 volts going to the valve. I have read most of the discussions here about not having fuel. I can smell fuel but when it died, it has been spinning extremely easily. Thought that might point me in a direction but being automotive minded, quick spinning means big problems. If the fuel valve has to make before it gives the voltage to the ignition, I can see an issue somewhere and would prefer not changing every part. Yes, I am about to pull the plugs to check compression, just thought someone might have a place to look since this made little sense.

I don't thing the valves touch the pistons in those engines so just pop another belt on and away you go.

just wanted to thank you for answering. Yes, when I took the valve cover off, the belt was just sitting on top of the cam gear. They say water leaking is the worst cause and the little o ring behind the water pump did not look like it was ever sealed and most likely the reason I could not keep the radiator full. I realized the reason I had compression in 2 and 3 were simply because the valves were closed.

got 3 out of 4 plugs out, no compression in cylinder 1, 2 and 3 have good compression got some penetrant in 4 to try to get the plug out. I have been told this alternator has a "striker" which forces you to raise the rpm's to get the alternator light to go off sometimes, guessing to just try to get 12 volts to the gas solenoid and coil. Does the voltage regulator only effect charging or can it have the voltage way too low thru the entire system?
