I was out training this past Saturday , and I came across two relics. The first, a Dahmer, an 8000 pound capacity forklift, Ford powered, rough terrain straight mast forklift, fully operational. The second, a forklift named Ross, non-operational, but I have the service manual, dated May, 1945, by the US War Department. This forklift was developed by the Ross Carrier Company, and is Model 18HT. Somebody, sometime painted red/orange flames along the side and I believe that the problem with the truck has to do with the carburetor. Plaques are still intact.
Does anyone know of these two trucks. Its history? I was given the service manual for the Ross, and its in very good shape for a book that is 63 years old, and the drawings, its details and such, is extremely interesting.
I have pis of both which I shall submit to forkliftaction.com this week.

No, that's okay. Once I find out the exact amount, I will forward a copy of the receipt and the mail costs and you can send me a cheque or money order once you have received it. They will photocopy all 360 pages and I will have them cerlox bind it so its stays together. Just tell me how quick you want the mail to be. Normal, quicker or quickest.
I'll be taking it there tomorrow, Friday, and will pick it up next Wednesday, as I'll be training everyday in between, and have it in the mail next Wednesday or Thursday, if that is fine with you.
Danny
Tha would be great and then if they want to call me with the billing for coppying and shipping I could give them a Ccard number
Monte
The fee for the photocopying at Staples with binding is approx $25.00CDN plus shipping of which I do not know the cost (mail). If interested, please advise and I will have it done and mailed out to your address.
Monte,
I will get to Staples sometime this eweek and find out the cost. I will then email you the cost and tell me if that is okay by you. At the same time, I will gather the pics of the truck and off to you they will go as well. And if interested, I can connect you to the owner of this truck who lives near Hamilton Ontario, about an hour away from Toronto, but again, the truck is further north.
IT HAS BEEN SITTING IN A FIELD FOR MANY YEARS AND NOT USED. THERE IS AN ENGINE ISSUE BUT i AM NO SERVICE TECH TO RELATE THE PROBLEM TO YOU. It is intact, a bit weird looking, and since I never saw an actual one is normal shape, I cannot determine how modded this truck is. There is a wooden plank, like a windshield, and it has been painted black, or dark blue with flames on the side lol
Anyhow, I will get back to you this week, and that is a promise.
Danny
Dan, I will pay to have it copied and mailed if that works.

The manual is 365 pages long. If you are looking for specifics, I can scan and email the info you are looking for. That is no problem.
Do your email monte at bellsouth dot com format so I see it. I can email you assorted pics. The truck is located in eastern Ontario, about 2.5 hours west of Ottawa. Nice country in summer time though.
And I do not believe he is asking a fee.
I fully understand, could it be copied? I am more interested in the content for practical purposes. Did you say you had pics of the lift? Where is it located, I have the capacity to haul it.
Monte
If the manual can be copied my email is [email address removed] or fax at 763-241-7976
Monte,
The manual is a classis, the pics and schematics. I would prefer to hang onto it.
I think the truck you can have for free. Just have to get it to where you live.
Email me at info at idealforklifttraining dot com
Dan , I actually have a Ross Lift Truck model 18HT in operational condition. I would sure like a copy of the manual you have and could be interested in purchasing your clients lift truck for parts??
I can be contacted at 612 747-5001 Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
Monte
Ross was owned by Clark and typically made bigger trucks. They were three wheel design pneumatics with both steer wheels together in the center of the truck similar to todays three wheel electrics.
I actually have a parts manual-although most parts fot those trucks have not been available for over 30years.
Dan,
I am almost sure Clark bought Ross... they were known for their
straddle carriers at one time.... Last one i saw was twenty years
ago and it was old then... maybe someone will know more...
Sorry Dan m...we did record the Ross brand and I had a website for them but when i went to have a look at it again it had disappeared. So hopefully some of our readers can tell us all about them. Cheers
Hi Prentice,
It is my client who owns the forklift, and not me. When I trained their staff this past weekend, I saw this make of truck that I have never seen before. Not that it is a beauty in any sense of the imagination, so I figured I would post my find. I do not need a parts supplier but I can direct my client to you if he needs parts. Actually, I urged him to join forkliftaction dot com and he'll probably do it this week.
What I do find amazing though is that no one is commenting on this Ross unit. I have the service manual dated May 1945 form the US war department. And although the truck is non-operational, it is still intact. I am sure that a well versed technician with some tools, machine shop and creativity skills could put this truck into working order, as a hobby. The truck is '64' years old.
I forwarded pics to info at forkliftaction dot com yesterday, and hopefully they will be up on the site somewhere soon.
Hello Dan m, We use to service about 6 Dahmer lift trucks for the old Cashway lumber stores. I will get back to you on some service and parts manuals. Do you need a parts supplier???
Hi Dan m....good find and we look forward to getting the photos.....We record Dahmer Forklift Ltd at Elmira Ontario, Canada. Their phone number is in our Business Directory. We record they do not have a website, however Wayco, you can find them at www dot wayco dot ca show they are a distributer of Dahmer Rough Terrain 2 and 4 wheel drive forklifts. Some old notes I have record them as large all terrain masted, built on a ford tractor chassis. Cheers
