Discussion:
Help - drive starts and immediately stops

Hello all,

I have the following:
Model: Nichiyu FBT 13 PN-50-300
SN: 215AA0011

It has worked great for over a year, but recently started acting up. When engaging the foot pedal in forward or reverse, the machine will jump forward or backward and immediately shut off. All other functions such as steering and mast are fine. If I release the pedal and press it again, it jumps again. I used this technique to limp it out of the way on the floor. If I continue to hold down the pedal, nothing more happens, but I do hear a faint high pitched tone that goes away when I release the pedal.

On the display the "travel" icon is flashing. Based on some googling, I believe this means, "When fault is detected in the travel circuit, the travel icon flashes and the presumed defective part name is displayed." The display is in Japanese, so I can't make out the part name. I found a post here on changing the display language, but it was for a different model. I haven't dug in yet to see if it will translate to this machine.

Battery is fully charged. I have lifted the drive wheels off the ground and tried to engage with the same results. I'm fairly handy and would be comfortable troubleshooting with my dmm if someone could point me in the right direction.

Thank you,

-Michael.

I haven't been able to find any bad capacitors. Are these the ones on the main PCB where I changed the language or is there another board? Do you have access to a wiring diagram? I do not have one.

Thanks for your help. I haven't been able to find anyone in our area that will work on the Nichiyu brand forklift.

Thanks - we now have an English display!

The errors I'm seeing are:
Contact, Bypass
Chopper, Travel

I will take a look at the diodes next.

Hey Michael, Ok on this model it's a bit different. You have to change RS1 back to E position. Change RS0 to 1 and leave it in this position (no need change it with buttons) , put the contact back ON.
The diodes are on the control board, if I'm not mistaken there are 3 pieces.

A couple more notes - The RS1 on this machine is black - not blue. Also I just noticed that on the left side of the display there are two arrows with a button in the middle. Maybe these are the arrows you were mentioning? I tried the sequence you posted, but it doesn't seem to work on this model.

Thank you for taking the time to help! I can confirm it is FBT13-50, not a 65. I guess I posted in the wrong forum.

I do see an RS1 switch, which is currently set to E. I don't have arrows on the display (must be the -65 that does). Is there a way to change language on the -50?

Where would you expect the broken diode? Is this something on the control board or would this be closer to the drive motors?

Hello Michael, Maybe I can help you here....
Could you please give the correct model, in the title it's FBT13-65 bud in the message it's FBT13-50.
If it's a -65, on the main printcard you have a blue colored switch RS1 it's normally pointed to 0. turn this witch the contact switch off to position 6. Turn the contact on, use the arrows of the display to change the language. Change the RS1 back to 0 and try again with starting up the truck. What's the error now? I guess you have a broken diode.
