Handle and Knuckle Disassembly
Should it become necessary to remove the control handle
from the knuckle to replace springs and/or shaft, or make
repairs to the assembly. The following steps should be
followed:
1. Lift and block truck as needed, and disconnect battery.
2. Raise control handle to its full upright position.
3. Drive out roll pin holding left side of shaft. The shaft
should turn counterclockwise approximately 20°. If the
shaft does not rotate a face spanner wrench may be
used to rotate the shaft and relieve the spring tension.
4. Drive the shaft toward the right side as needed to
remove springs.
5. Thoroughly clean all steer components and inspect
springs, shaft and knuckle for uneven wear or cracks.
If necessary replace any components at this time.

Handle and Knuckle Assembly
Before assembling handle, springs, and knuckle, inspect all
components for uneven wear, cracks, or other damage. If
any abnormal wear or damage appears that creates any
doubt that steering may be affected, replace with new parts
Assemble the control handle and springs as follows:
1. Reverse steps 1 thru 5 above.
2. With control handle in its full upright position, tension
the rotary shaft by using a face spanner wrench and
turning approximately 20° clockwise or until the roll pin
holes align with the knuckle.
3. Drive a roll pin into position to hold shaft and spring
assembly in place.
4. Check for proper operation.
Spring Adjustment
The rotary shaft is fixed on the left side at the knuckle with a
roll pin. If the spring pressure reduces over time or the handle
no longer returns to the upright position, the springs can be
re-tensioned as follows:
1. Lift and block truck as needed, and disconnect battery.
2. Raise control handle to its full upright position.
3. Drive out roll pin holding left side of shaft. Using a face
spanner wrench rotate the shaft clockwise until the
offset roll pin hole on the right side aligns with the
knuckle and drive in new roll pin.
4. Check for proper operation.

Fact of the week
In May 2023, a Belgian Malinois named Wilson played a key role in the rescue of four children lost in the Amazon jungle. The young children were missing for 40 days after a plane crash that killed their mother and other adults. Wilson tracked the children's footprints, leading the military to their location.
