The regulator does not cause the injector to fail. However excess build up of tar in the regulator can overflow into the injector and injector housing causing the relief(s) in the injector housing to clog/stick and also can cause the injector to stick. The regulator should be drained of tar regularly during the monthly PM service to prevent this.
