Discussion:
Clark c-500 Y200

I have a y200 with a "fast lift" the lift cyl is blown but the Cyl has a big pressure line on the bottom of the cyl with a small return line and also another big pressure line on the top of the cyl where the return line normally is? Anybody ever see anything like this? I am guessing it has something to do with the "fast lift" option as I pulled the both big lines and pulled the lift valve when fully open the both lines seem to have flow. The upper line does not power up when I lower it which was my original worry. I don't want to rebiuld the cyl only to blow it apart again if I don't have to. Any help would be appreciated greatly.

The serial # will be stamped on the body under the battery. You say you tracked down the original selling dealer- they should have a "line sheet" on the unit which would list everything the truck came with from new- that will answer the question about a fast lift option.

As far as what cylinder is in it now, the outer mast channel will have a number stamped in it facing the front of the machine- you'll have to raise the carriage to see it. It may be on either the left or right, usually about 3' up from the ground. That will tell what upright/ cylinder is installed presently.

I couldn't agree more. The data plate reads c 500 y180 stamped over with 200? I have the s/n and lot # in my truck the model year is 1979 I can't remember the numbers and it's late I'll try to remember to post the S/N tomorrow again thanks for the help!!!!! There is no modification other than now only having pressure to the bottom of cyl rather than at the bottom and top. The top pressure line in the cyl is only plugged at the line and IMO hyd pressure to the top and bottom of the cyl when lifting can't be safe. The rebuilder is re doing the cyl. The cyl in it is a clark cyl but a single no longer a teloscopic this was apparently changed sometime in the past by who? After the rebuilder does his thing I will operate the machine in this mode as it can do no harm to the packing and check it's operation for safe and proper operation and the guy who bought the truck off fleabay is in touch with the seller so we will see?

There is a huge liability issue when you start modifying forklifts- especially uprights & counterweights. I would find out how the hoist cylinder was originally configured & return the unit to that. Anything other than that orignal configuration would need a sign off from the manufacturer stating that the unit was safe to operate.

Sorry I have not posted here is what I discovered so far. I got in touch with the dealer who sold the machine originally. They were still in business as a different dealer but had the record!!!!! By the numbers the machine was originally a Y 180.
The original machine had a telescopic lift cyl. This may explain the double lift pressure valve for high speed lift.
I removed the upper pressure line off the cyl which is now a single cyl, converted it to a return to tank and plugged the pressure line. The machine now cavitates on lift when lift is about 48" to 60" then it's fine. Perhaps the valve which is a double lift equalizes and cavitates or perhaps it's just still a bit airbound?
The cyl is leaking but I think the rebuilder did not do the top packing very well.

Standard lift 2 channel. I will post the serial number as soon as possible Thanks a lot!!!.
I have never seen the option either I will try to get and post a pic of the valve handles as well. The lift valve handle actually has a staggered operation slot. IE straight back is up over to the right and back again is up fast I hope!!!

If you post the complete model & serial number, along with the mast number, I'll get a breakdown of the cyl from my vendor. I've never heard of the fast lift option personally. What type of upright is it- double or triple?

The black box flight recorder was invented by Australian scientist David Warren in the mid-1950s. While initially met with indifference in Australia, his invention gained international recognition, particularly in the UK, and is now a mandatory piece of safety equipment on all commercial aircraft.
