If you get a new ford transit or custom then no. Although they will be rolling out tablets for paperwork that they can track through that apparently.

Irish lift trucks isn't servicing peel ports. Coverage of Briggs machines in the republic is provided from the north, and has been for years without issue, with the exception of some access equipment that is subcontracted out. They have been trying to expand into the Irish market since the barloworld days

Irish Lift Trucks separated from the OHM Group and was sold to Briggs. This was on the cards since Briggs got the deal for Peel Ports. They had no coverage in Ireland and the best option was to buy somebody in Ireland to service this customer. It also give them access to all of Irish Lift Truck Customers.

Deadpan Combilift are building a new premise due for completion spring next year. Sammons Enterprises (Briggs) aren't buying them. Briggs have brought Irish Lift trucks a large Hyster dealer.

I totally agree with you Burt. Listening to what the B.H.L. boys were saying about the daft situation when they were the 'agents' for Advance floor equipment and all the totally unecessary messing about with what, quite frankly, should have been left to the people that just deal with cleaning equipment. They started to get roped in to all sorts of time wasting situations including...'' Can you repair my (240v mains powered) carpet cleaning equipment'' etc. It took years to get rid of all.............. ! The initial thinking was that a killing could be made with sales of cleaning fluids and brushes and so on, but the reallity was very different.

As an end user of everything forklift, floor machine etc.
You'd have to be a pretty lazy organisation to lump everything in with one company.
I can see the attraction, but any end user worth their salt will know that one cap does not fit all.
My old boss used to say, why use a middle man when you can go direct, and this is exactly the same with the Briggs / Hako tie up.
Briggs would be better off sticking with their core business, i found they actually have a good hire fleet at short notice and a flexible engineering capability better than anyone else in the UK, especially if you wanted stuff doing, is it really that difficult?

It was agreed at the end of last year.

Also heard Sammons Enterprises (Briggs) are interested in buying Combilift.

The service would be good for any account, Briggs do seem to enjoy the large contracts, after all it's the guys at the coal face, with the customer facing, logical way of thinking, problem solving talents that provide that service

Are the Briggs engineers still having moral issues. Would the service be good for a large account?

I remember the first visit from the self proclaimed turnaround expert after Briggs took over BHL when in his introduction to Briggs and welcome to BHL staff he slagged off everything BHL did. One thing he specifically went on about was all the little "feifdoms" in BHL, (not true to the extent he was making out), and how that absolutely do not / would not happen in Briggs. Well it looks like they do, (and always did), and even though he has long gone, his and the Lowestoft old boys club mentality remains. Big company, through aquisition not organic growth still run like a corner shop. As for training...point taken but not by Briggs management. Technology continues to move fast... engineers want to fix things quickly as it gives them satisfaction and improves self esteem. With fixed price contracts the profit you make depends on many factors but not the least how many hours get booked on equipment trying to fix it, this gets out of control when you lack knowledge from not being trained properly!! Cutting training resources is a false economy, but I doubt anything will be done till there is a "Grenfell Tower" incident and investgation, we will see who runs for cover then...if we dont blink.

Engineering Services 'team' seem divorced from the rest of service side. Service notifications and many other functions are always a bit of a lottery as to what happens or should I say, what is supposed to happen. Some serious pencil sharpening needs to take place here!

Engineering services, would be better trying to stick to materials handling and providing better service.
Management like an onion and engineers like mushrooms.

In-depth product training ! What a joke. If your extremely lucky you may get a product familiarity course (this is the engine, that's the control block type of thing).
They have cut back their training department back to next to nothing !
Also you will find that day by day more obscure bits of kit will be thrown at you as they will take on absolutely anything.
