Discussion:
Battery replacement and Charging

Hi,

So I decided to experiment and order a Chinese electric forklift, 1.5T, 3m.

As anticipated ran into problems. The 5 x 12 @ 150 AH batteries upon arrival would not hold the charge and went bad. Forklift works fine.

I am looking to replace these batteries.

The questions are:

1. Should I stick with 12V @150 AH \lead Acid batteries or can I use Lithium LiFePO4 instead? Pros and cons?

2. When Charging these batteries, am I better off charging each battery individually using a multiple charging system "or" is ok to charge all 5 batteries in series?

Currently they are wired in series to give me 48V, but I think series charge will not charge each battery properly and may reduce the life of the batteries.

Any advice on that?

Thanks for your help in advance.
