Hello. I am working on our shops Caterpillar GPK45 Forklift. It has a strait 6 cyl Nissan engine. The forklift all of a sudden, stopped responding to the accelerator pedals input. It wont accelerate in forward or reverse and it wont rev up in neutral. If I disconnect the throttle body's actuator and plug it back in. The RPM's will surge for a very short period of time and then the engine will stall.
We took the throttle body off our forklift and plugged it into a known good forklift and it seemed to respond properly with the pedal's input. We did not bolt it on. Rather than throwing parts at our forklift, is there any way to pull the codes off the computer without the purchase of a scan tool? I would like to narrow down the problem to keep costs to a minimum. Right now there is a warning light on, in the shape of a triangle with an exclamation point (!) in the center. As it sits now, I am pretty sure the problem lies with the pedal. Since our throttle body responded on the test forklift.
Anyone have any experience with this problem on this kind of forklift?
Thanks in advance

Thanks for the info guys- as an independent & "a competitor", dealers in my area won't allow me to purchase class space- as Jplayer stated- it's only open to customers with fleets. Frustrating isn't a strong enough word!
yes kevint that is a software package they offer to the public but it is not current, it is legacy and it is in read only. To get the full blown version like dealers get i'm sure you would need to contact them to gain access to the secured section of thier site where all that is. What they show there is not the same thing as we have from what i can see.
IF you check out impco's website I believe the impco software is available for download there........cables are also available to purchase I believe

if you attend any impco training classes you will get the program.
sometimes some dealers will allow tech's from other businesses to attend thier classes, generally it is techs that are based at a company that buys fleets of thier brand trucks and they have inhouse techs, but it does cost whatever they charge for the classes. As for buying it outright over the counter? i don't think they do that.
Swoop yes that is correct there is different software for the Nissan TB45 and Impco will not work
inline 6 cyl is a TB45 engine
there are 3 serial number breaks in this model with this engine.
What is the serial number of the lift?

i wasnt thinking when i mentioned the impco software and now noticing he said it was the inline 6 and not the 4.3 GM.
cat does have a specific program for the tb45 engines and i do not think the impco software is the same, i doubt it will even connect to the harness plug, has different adapters.
This probably has the Nissan TB45 Engine with the NIKKI regulator on it?? Is there two injectors on the top of the throttle body? sounds like they are gummed up with tar from the Vaporizor....has there been problems with the Vaporizor recently???
swoop- is the impco program available to anyone or is it dealer protected?
some of those GC45 models had an engine light on them and it would flash codes but if you do not have that particular system on that truck then you will need the impco software to hook up to the truck and see what codes its giving.
but it sounds to me like the throttle 'pedal position sensor' is out of range causing the code. you'll need to replace that but to set it correctly you will still need the impco program. You can try your luck doing it old school way but all i can say is good luck with that ;o)
