New straddle carriers headed to VictoriaVictorian International Container Terminal (VICT) has signed a deal with Kalmar for four hybrid straddle automated carriers, each with a 60T twin lift capacity.
Kalmar says the order was booked in Q2 2025 and delivery is expected to be completed within Q1 2026.
Kalmar says the new hybrid straddle carriers are for twin lift shuttle operations and have been specifically designed to increase productivity by reducing loading times.
VICT is owned by International Container Terminal Services and the 35-hectare site is Australia’s only full automated container terminal. It is also the only Melbourne terminal able to accommodate the largest box ships.
VICT’s automated operations are powered by Kalmar’s One Automation System, an end-to-end system which combines the automated equipment and a pre-integrated and tested software solution.
Bruno Porchietto, CEO of VICT says of the order: “Kalmar has greatly assisted our ongoing quest to increase productivity and maintain our customers satisfaction at the highest levels”.
Karri Keskinen, Kalmar’s head of global sales, adds: “This project builds on our long and successful history of cooperation with Victoria International Container Terminal”.
