TMH Baltics have delivered and installed the company’s first virtual reality (VR) forklift training simulator, based on cutting-edge technology.

“The simulator is built to resemble an original and ergonomic Toyota forklift driver compartment to maximise comfort for the trainee while offering him a real-life experience,” says Fred Märtsoo, marketing manager of TMH Baltics.

“The simulator consists of original Toyota driver compartment parts (seat, steering wheel, pedals, hydraulic controls, signal controllers) and a computer with VR environment and VR headset. The feeling of being in an actual warehouse driving a forklift is uncanny, thanks to Reality Matters technology.”

The simulator was developed to meet a tender from Tallinn Industrial Education Centre in Estonia. With support from the TMHE Training department, the new simulator, equipped with the latest virtual reality technology supplied by Reality Matters/UCAN, was ordered.

“We created five different scenarios according to the operator training requirements guidelines. Through these scenarios, a student forklift operator can learn basic driving skills or more complex ones. The scenarios consist of an introduction, a basic driving course, and a mix of more complicated driving tasks involving stacking and pallet handling.

“The simulation even keeps track of the driver’s behaviour and forklift handling; it then gives the driver some points of improvement and points out issues that might cause dangerous situations or extra costs to occur,” he explains.
