Mississippi inmates receive forklift training
Mississippi, United States
Forklift training at Washington County Regional Correctional Facility
A group of men incarcerated at Washington County Regional Correctional Facility have completed forklift certification training, equipping them with national certification credentials and job-ready skills.
Mississippi Department of Corrections private and regional facilities director, Derrick Chambers, says the graduates of the program demonstrated both commitment and determination as they trained in counterbalance lift truck operations, safety procedures and hands-on practice.
He adds the certification both increases employability upon release while also instilling a renewed sense of purpose and hope for a better future.
“Our mission is to reduce idleness and prepare more of our residents to be workforce-ready at release,” Chambers continues.
“Training programs like this empower individuals with the tools they need to succeed beyond incarceration.
“These men leave this class not just with a certificate but with a renewed outlook.”
