Palfinger is showcasing its new truck-mounted forklift, the CR50 Palreach, which it claims has an "unparalleled reach for its class" at the ConExpo in Las Vegas.
The CR50 has a maximum outreach of 77.5 inches (1.97 metres). That is achieved through a moving carriage which extends 32.5 inches (0.83 metres) and a Palreach scissor attachment which extends 45 inches (1.14 metres).
The moving carriage gets the forks in front of the tyres while the Palreach scissor allows the forks to extend across the bed and unload the truck from one side.
According to Palfinger head of communication Harald Bohaker, there are four types of truck-mounted forklifts - ones with moving mast, static mast, shooting boom or a combination system.
"The combination machine, our CR50 Palreach, combines the moving mast with the Palreach scissor. This combination allows the operator to unload from one side without having to drive under the body," Bohaker said.
"This allows for true one side unloading with a higher lift capacity than other systems because the mast is leaned against the truck body for added stability."
There are currently three other manufacturers with that system - Moffett, Princeton and Navigator, he said.
