The Battery Show North America 2016 |
Exhibitors at The Battery Show 2016, which just took place over 13-15 September in Detroit, are now preparing to cross the water and participate in the launch edition of The Battery Show Europe, taking place over 4-6 April, 2017 in Sindelfingen, Stuttgart, Germany.Over 70 companies have already signed up for the show and it is expected to sell out rapidly; capacity is limited at the venue, so a maximum of 200 exhibiting companies can be accommodated.
Following seven years of running the North American event - bringing it to a point where it features over 500 exhibitors and draws in excess of 7,000 visitors - this was the right time and exactly the right place to launch
The Battery Show Europe. According to the Association of European Automotive and Industrial Battery Manufacturers (EUROBAT), this sector in the EU directly employs around 30,000 workers and has an annual turnover of approximately €6.5 billion. The German energy industry plays a central role, is home to many of the leading manufacturers, and continues to benefit from substantial investments, such as those announced this year by BMZ and Daimler in the battery field.
As well as manufacturing sites, many research and development centres are located in Europe. The EU battery manufacturing industry collectively spent €740 million on R&D and innovation-related investments over the last five years, with an additional €105 million for related expenses (e.g. material costs), plus manufacturing-related investments (e.g. pilot lines) of €915 million. These investments alone, approximating to a total of US$1.97 billion, emphasize the ambitions of the industry in Europe and the great opportunities that await all the inaugural exhibitors.

"Advanced battery technologies and battery energy storage are playing an increasingly influential role in Europe's energy strategy," said Event Director, Steve Bryan,
"and our aim is for The Battery Show Europe to play a decisive part in how this plays out - indeed, as we have succeeded in achieving in the U.S., to become the standout event for the industry."The battery industry in Europe has never been stronger, as manufacturers benefit from a growing European market with increases in e-mobility, grid storage, microgrids, renewables, portable devices and tools along with medical technology. The North American exhibitors bring vast experience of all these technologies with them to the Europe event and they appreciate the multi-billion dollar potential represented by the industry in Europe.
The world is becoming increasingly electric, and Europe is leading the way in much of it, especially as part of the goal of increasing the share of renewable energy in gross final energy consumption to 20% by 2020. The Battery Show Europe is the first chance for the global battery industry - from Asia, North America and Europe - to come together and benefit from this increased growth.
The systems on show next April will undoubtedly play an important part in future energy propositions. As the latest EUROBAT report says:
"We strongly believe that, in the near future, battery energy storage and battery support services will be absolutely necessary in order to support the deployment of renewables and the stability of the grid. Batteries can be placed at every level of the grid, from generation to transmission, from distribution to domestic use by consumers...decarbonization of the energy mix and reduction of overall CO2 emissions are other clear, positive outcomes of an increased use of battery energy storage in Europe." The Battery Show Europe is already receiving enthusiastic backing from top names - companies such as Siemens in Europe and U.S. innovator Paraclete Energy, which has confirmed a significant presence and whose CEO, Jeff Norris, said,
"The Battery Show has become the must-attend event for the industry, and we recognize the EU is a gateway to the Asian markets."The Battery Show Europe will be the largest battery trade event in Europe, with over 3,000 visitors expected. It will be a free-to-attend event and will be co-located with Electric & Hybrid Vehicle Technology Expo Europe, following the highly successful format established over a number of years in the USA. These are recognised as complementary shows that dovetail perfectly.
"This builds on the firmly established success of the U.S. formula," said Steve Bryan.
"With the two events now established brands, and growing demand from our existing exhibitors to expand into the European market, we are in a strong position to deliver a successful launch event in April 2017."In order to create further value for the Sindelfingen experience, Smarter Shows has confirmed that it will stage a twin-track, free-to-attend conference, to be held in a specially designated first-floor forum area, overlooking the main expo.
