The United Kingdom Warehousing Association (UKWA) has partnered with independent fuel card supplier Forecourts Fuel Ltd to guarantee the association's members pay the lowest possible rates for on-road diesel.
Michael Davison, UKWA's membership services manager, says fuel is at the centre of operating expenses for almost all haulage companies.
"Recent increases in the price of fuel are causing additional pressure, so why not discuss how you can minimise fuel prices with a fuel card for your business?"
Under the scheme, Forecourt Fuels guarantees to save an account holder a minimum of 2.5 pence per net litre against the overall retail national average on every litre of diesel purchased from participating sites for a 12-month minimum period.
UKWA says its members which participate in the scheme can potentially reduce their annual fuel bill by thousands of pounds. They will also enjoy other benefits like the free issue of fuel cards with no contracts or hidden costs, weekly advance price notifications by email or SMS, free access to Forecourt Fuels' online management tool, "Webfuels", regular management reporting for control of fleet and a choice of fuel cards allowing access to over 6,000 UK and 1,500 European service stations.
A fuel card looks and works like a credit card, but with a few differences.
It is usually restricted to the purchase of diesel/fuel. When it is used to make a purchase, both the vehicle registration and mileage are recorded against the respective transactions. The fuel card invoice also doubles up as a fuel management report, showing the date, time and place of each sale, registration number of the vehicle collecting the fuel and how much was drawn.
The UKWA is the UK's trade association serving the warehousing and logistics sector. Established in 1944, the association's 600-plus members control nearly 100 million square feet (9,290,304 square metre) of warehousing space from about 1,300 locations.
