Plant Engineering's December issue has named the Columbus site of Toyota Industrial Equipment Manufacturing Inc (TIEM) as the magazine's 2010 top plant.

TIEM's operational results in environment, safety and efficiency contributed to the selection, but the magazine article identifies another reason: "What TIEM did to find its way through the recession and the challenges in manufacturing was not to wait for the recession to end. The operations staff and employees at TIEM met the recession head-on."

TIEM designs, manufactures and supplies Toyota forklifts and replacement parts along with the assembly of motor vehicle parts and accessories. TIEM associates have built more than 350,000 forklifts over 20 years.

TIEM produces nearly 80% of all Toyota forklifts sold in North America.

CFE Media LLC of Oak Brook, Illinois publishes Plant Engineering magazine, which will acknowledge the TIEM achievement at a manufacturing summit in Chicago in March.
