Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT) is building a new 433-metre berth and will acquire more container handling equipment over the next three years.

The development will boost annual capacity at JICT, Indonesia's largest container terminal, to 3.1 million TEUs. The existing terminals run four mobile cranes, 42 rubber-tyred gantry cranes, and 14 quay cranes, including two post-panamax.

The terminals are currently being expanded, and the first 261-metre post-panamax berth, equipped with two post-panamax cranes, is in operation.

Meanwhile, Koja Container Terminal, jointly owned by PT Pelabuhan Indonesia and Hutchison Port Holdings, has flagged plans for an expansion. Koja's container handling facilities, which include two post-panamax, three panamax and 21 rubber-tyred gantry cranes, are supported by an advanced container handling system and state-of-the-art technologies.

No further details on the expansion plan were available.
