DP World has ordered 12 fully electric Kalmar straddle carriers for its London Gateway logistics hub, including high-energy batteries and FastCharge charging stations.

Kalmar says the delivery of the straddle carriers is expected to take place in Q1 2026.

Kalmar says the straddle carriers will be fitted with two different charging technologies: a standard CCS2 charging interface and a megawatt charging system (MCS) interface for fast charging during operational breaks.

Andrew Bowen, chief operating officer, UK Ports & Terminals, DP World explains the election straddle carriers are part of a plan to reduce carbon emissions from London Gateway to net zero by 2050.

“At DP World, we are strongly committed to being a global leader in sustainable logistics, and these new additions to our fully electric fleet at London Gateway will play a key role in enabling us to achieve that goal,” Bowen adds.

Meanwhile, DP World has announced an investment of USD100 million with partner Asian Terminals at Manila South Harbour, including the addition two new ship-to-shore (STS) cranes to increase its capacity.

“The two neo post-panamax STS cranes, manufactured by Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries, are the largest among MSH’s 11 quay-side equipment and among the biggest ever deployed in the Philippines,” DP World states. “With an outreach of 58m, each STS crane can handle vessels carrying up to 20 containers wide. Each crane is equipped with modern safety and operational features such as intelligent sensing systems for monitoring speed, vibration, temperature, trailer positioning, anti-collision, and automated diagnostics.”
