For some time, we have heard about skills shortages and labour challenges in materials handling. It's the topic of presentations at industry events, and the focus of blogs and association statements. But we don't see too much action to address the talent drought.
That's why it's good to read about a couple of initiatives this week: KION's graduate training program and a business network training scheme in the US state of Kentucky.
What's clear from both of these ventures is that we can't wait for governments to fix the problems. It's up to industry and private sector to sell materials handling as a career path - to attract the best candidates, provide industry-relevant training and develop workplace cultures to retain the cream of the crop.
Hats off to all those already doing this - and let's see more evidence that we're ensuring our own survival.

These releases in Forkliftaction are a nice experience for SNDC... We got seven inquiries coming from Canada, USA, Mexico, Israel and Australia (five from retailers, two from machines manufacturers) and we are still in contact with them. I can state that's a success story!
