We report this week on two large dealer consolidations in the United States - a trend that seems to be gaining momentum. Clearly, the tough times and increased competition are placing some dealers under pressure. And of course, dealers feel the impact from both sides - price-conscious buyers on the one hand and dominant manufacturers and importers on the other. The consolidations may be the salvation of many dealerships, strengthening their hand with their suppliers and giving them scale and scope to pass onto customers. It's a trend we'll no doubt see in other markets, too.
