The Glenrose Fish Company Ltd has received a Mitsubishi PBP20K pallet truck and a FB15KRT3 three-wheel electric counterbalance truck to work in a wet and salty environment.
Mike Kendrick, Glenrose's operations manager, said previous forklifts from other manufacturers "were not up to the job".
"Corrosion and electrical failure were just two of the causes of machines breaking down in the past. We needed trucks that would not let us down," he said.
Glenrose's first requirement was for the two trucks to be galvanised for protection against continuous splashing in salty water.
The counterbalance truck's chassis, mast and carriage were galvanised and the electrics sealed. Its underside was coated with special wax oil. It now works in the wet fish room while the pallet truck works in the cold store.
"We got an excellent lease/hire deal from MH Industrial (Mitsubishi's local dealer), so the price was fine," Kendrick said.
