Leading Mexican equipment hire company TRACSA has reduced its inventory from 1,300 platforms to 1,000 platforms to ensure its profitability.

Director Héctor Gonzalez, in an interview with Haulotte, notes a significant contraction of the Mexican market: "The lifting sector had a significant contraction, (falling) more than 50% from 2019 to 2020. In the first quarter of this year, there was another contraction of around 40% or 50% compared to 2020," he says.

Gonzalez says the COVID-19 crisis has had a significant impact on his business that includes five branches in nine states of Mexico

"The health crisis has affected us a lot. Before the pandemic, we visited the projects and could be with the clients in the field. This gave us a solid relationship with the clients, with suppliers and manufacturers like Haulotte, being (involved) in the project to facilitate their work," he says.

TRACSA is now looking to e-commerce, with efforts going into "a transactional page allowing business to be done online".

Looking to the future, Gonzalez says the first priority is to "get out of this bad patch".

"I believe we can have exponential growth by pushing the issue of regulation at the national level. We are talking about importing more machines than we are importing now, and the market needs will grow.

"I see a strong trend towards electrical products and equipment," he says, noting the need to increase battery life.
