The Italian forklift attachment manufacturer A.T.I.B. is well known for its expertise as manufacturer of clamps with a wide choice of models, capacities, arm configurations and openings, to satisfy the handling requirements in the recycling industry. Designed for maximum productivity, the 474 and 116 Series offer a variety of high-performance features.

Today the logistic management in the recycling industry is very important: every day several trailers are loaded. Different kind of recycling bales are handled with care and precision. With the help of specific machineries, the operator has to precisely separate the materials, which are mainly composed by cans, arriving from super markets, by plastics, by paper and card board, and by cotton rags. They are then sorted and bales are compacted again to be loaded in to the lorry. Working in a clean environment is paramount.

The 'technical' solution to an energy problem is not a problem: just choose the equipment and technologies available. Instead, it is far more difficult to convince the decider that saving energy is the right thing to do at the moment: he will ask for interest, yield, profit, and if the technician, or energy manager, is unable to prove that the proposal makes more than the cost, it will be difficult to get the job.

Having realised the need for a greener more efficient clamp across all its customer sectors, Atib set about a total rethink and the results have been startling. Utilizing modern bearing materials, cylinder design, hydraulic valves and clamping profiles a 20% saving in energy and efficiency is achieved.

The clamp's incredibly efficient hydraulic system provides faster arm and, when requested, rotation speeds, and reduces excess heat while delivering longer battery life in electric lift trucks or reduced fuel consumption in internal combustion lift trucks. Excellent visibility through the arms and frame allows for precise load handling.

A.T.I.B. recommends to adopt the 474 and 116 recycling bale clamp model, which are specifically designed for heavy-duty handling of waste paper, plastic, metal and other recycling material bales. With capacities ranging from 1200 to 8000 Kg, these clamps are the ideal choice for all waste handling operations. All clamps in the range provide a high level of clamping force assuring safe bale handling.

The profile frame are available in aluminium and in strong steel and its structure is very rigid and improve stability when clamping. New bearings the full width of the chassis makes for reduced pressure to operate the clamp, thus ensuring smooth opening and closing and increases clamping efficiency. Cylinders and hydraulics can be well protected by a front plate shield, keeping good visibility all around the clamp frame. Arms are directly welded with full penetration to the sliding arms supports. The new arm design with improved clamping angels and teardrop profile improves clamping efficiency and reduces potential damage. The bale clamps are now able to gently follow possible sliding friction on the floor. As optional supply, replaceable wear bars are welded under the frame and the arms, providing additional wear protection.

For this specific handling case, A.T.I.B. offer a new clamp, with a new regeneration hydraulic valve utilizers the exhausted/return oil from one side of the cylinder to assist the operation of opening and clamping, assuring the synchronised movement of the two arms; this improves speed of operation and reduces the requirement for revving the truck saving on wear and tear on the hydraulic system and more importantly fuel.
