Environmental equipment dealer Jack Doheny Cos (JDC) is expecting delivery of new Bronto Skylift 197 Heavy Duty Telescopic (HDT) truck-mounted aerial devices, one each in December and March.
The highly engineered tight-tolerance Bronto units will launch JDC's entry into the field of ultra-high stable aerial work platforms. The current Doheny fleet includes 84 combination sewer cleaners, 80 wet/dry DOT vacuum trucks, 62 wet/dry industrial vacuum units, 53 hydro excavators and numerous other units.
In pursuing the initiative, JDC established a specialty equipment division and hired Brian Stanley, a veteran of 28 years in the equipment rental industry, to run the business, initially with an emphasis on serving the construction and energy sectors including utility transmission providers in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and adjacent states.
"I have worked the Michigan market for 30 years in sales" principally for aerial equipment, Stanley says. Until JDC recruited him, Stanley says he was unaware of the organisation, which focuses on equipment for underground and surface processes.
Stanley of South Lyon, Michigan had years of experience representing the Bronto line. He left the most recent of his numerous positions with United Rentals Inc on 30 April and joined JDC on 5 May as sales director for strategic accounts and specialty equipment.
"We want longer-term rentals (for the Bronto equipment)," Stanley notes. "We have a number of irons in the fire." A typical product lifecycle of 18-24 months evolves from placement of an order for this kind of equipment until the project work starts.
Each new Bronto 197 HDT aerial will have a platform height of 197 ft. (60 m), horizontal outreach of 77 ft. (23.5 m) and a platform capacity of 1,000 lb. (450 kg). Stanley identifies the sophisticated Bronto models as significantly more stable than most aerial work platforms.
Northville-based JDC was founded in 1974, employs about 250 staff and has 17 branch locations including operations in the US states of Michigan, California, Ohio, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, Texas, North Dakota, Utah and Indiana and, through its Vacuum Trucks of Canada unit, in the Canadian provinces of Alberta, Ontario and Manitoba. "We are hiring," Stanley reports.
Steve Starling serves as North American sales manager for the Orlando, Florida-based Bronto Skylift Inc subsidiary of equipment conglomerate Federal Signal Corp of Oak Brook, Illinois.
In addition to JDC, other US dealerships representing Bronto are Hinkel Equipment Rental Associates Inc of Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania, near Philadelphia; Aspen Equipment Company of Bloomington, Minnesota, near Minneapolis; and Excel High Reach Inc of Corona, California, near Los Angeles.
Federal Signal subsidiary Bronto Skylift Oy Ab has its headquarters, engineering, customer service and assembly functions in Tampere and its manufacturing operations in Pori, Finland.
Other Bronto Skylift aerials have working heights to more than 340 ft. (103.6 m), horizontal reach exceeding 102 ft. (31 m) and platform capacities to 1,500 lb. (675 kg).
