Cargotec will deliver 17 all-electric Kalmar ECF50-90 forklifts to Ford Motor Company.
One Kalmar ECF90-6 and two ECF70-6 models were delivered to Ford's Craiova, Romania, assembly plant in April, and next month 14 forklifts will be delivered to Ford Germany's Cologne facility.
According to Cargotec, the Kalmar all-electric forklift series is capable of handling loads from 5 to 9 T. The series is part of its Pro Future solutions, which have passed industry-leading criteria on power source, energy efficiency, carbon efficiency, emissions and recyclability.
Most of Ford's Romanian and German applications are indoors, and the company says it benefits from the zero-emission forklifts.
The machine's manoeuvrability was also important to Ford. Cargotec says its ability to provide a compact variant was another major positive for working in confined spaces. Ford specified that 12 of the Kalmar ECF70-6C models supplied to Cologne be adapted with a shortened wheelbase to optimise productivity in narrow indoor operations. The machines will feed steel dies, which shape metal to form vehicle chassis in the manufacturing process.
