The owner of what is arguably the world's largest Toyota dealership, Mohammed Abdul Latif Jameel, has held an event for clients of Abdul Latif Jameel Co's (ALJ) industrial equipment division in Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam.

Arab News reported Jameel welcomed visitors, which included business leaders, division heads and directors, and clients and guests from various industrial and commercial sectors, to the 'iftar' (Arabic for evening meal during which Muslims break fast) event for the company to communicate its plans.

Jameel announced plans to expand sales of forklifts and after-sales services by establishing independent centres to provide quality services.

A new training centre will be constructed for forklift operators, which will be the company's community service contribution, he said.

ALJ Group has exclusive distributorship rights to market and sell Toyota industrial equipment and spare parts in Saudi Arabia. ALJ has been selling Toyota forklifts there for more than 25 years. It claims to be the market leader for "sales volume, market share and customer satisfaction".

In 2006, Jameel sued the Wall Street Journal Europe for libel after the publication had reported in February 2002 that ALJ Group's bank accounts were being monitored at the request of US authorities.
