Konecranes' 3,000th RTG to be Polish-madeFinnish materials handling equipment maker Konecranes, has sold its 3,000th rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) crane to the Baltic Container Terminal (BCT) in Poland.
The order, signed in Q2, was for eight hybrid RTGs and is the first the company has sold to the terminal.
The purchase of the hybrid RTGs is being funded the European Union’s NextGenerationEU National Recovery Plan for Poland.
The cranes will be manufactured in Poland by Konecranes’ local manufacturing network and will include the 3,000th RTG manufactured by the company.
As well as hybrid drive which combines battery technology with a compact diesel genset, the RTGs are also equipped with safety features including stack collision prevention, auto TOS reporting and auto steering.
BCT’s technical director, Maciej Maliszewski, says of the purchase: “This investment fits perfectly with our goal of improving handling capacity while reducing our environmental footprint”.
Heikki Kreku, director of RTGs, port solutions with Konecranes says there are now more than 225 hybrid RTGs it has manufactured, now in operation throughout Europe.
“The fact that our 3,000th RTG will be built in Poland for BCT makes this delivery a milestone,” Kreku adds.
“Our manufacturing network in Poland has been a fundamental part of our global success with RTGs.”
