KEYTROLLER'S access monitoring systems offer speed monitoring.

LCD-601 features a color LCD that, when connected to a speed sensor, shows the vehicle speed on .1 increments (MPH or KPH). This is especially handy for forklifts that frequent congested areas (like manufacturing) where management wants speeds reduced. With the speedometer showing actual speed in small increments, the driver has a clear view of his actual speed and can more easily comply with speeding regulations.

The company's mid-range access monitoring system, the KEY-105B, also has a speed sensor input. However, with no LCD display, it can not show actual speed.

With the speed sensor connected, both products are calibrated with respect to the tire diameter and gear ratio. Both products are programmed to a speed limit and a grace period (typically around 3--5 seconds). When the vehicle exceeds the set limit both devices will beep and flash warning the operator to slow. If he does not slow, when he reaches the end of the grace period---a 120dB flashing siren alarm sounds and will continue to sound until the vehicle slows below the speed limit setpoint. At the point where the external alarm sounds, the event is recorded and sent to software where it can be filtered and graphed by the operator, vehicle and time/date range. The log shows the duration of the speeding event. Since these access monitoring devices do not physically control speed---installation is much easier and less expensive. Both devices will operate the same whether the forklift is speeding in forward or reverse.

Some lift trucks come standard with speed sensors already installed. Both Keytroller devices can be spliced into this sensor to pick up the speed pulses so no additional speed sensor is necessary.

If a speed sensor is not available on the forklift, Keytroller offers two types:
Gear tooth sensor: Hole drilled and tapped over rotating differential gear in the axle. Sensor picks up gear tooth pulses as the gear rotates.
Magnetic sensor: "Erasure head" magnet is mounted in hole in wheel hub. Sensor is mounted in wheel well near brake shoes. As wheel rotates, sensor picks up the magnet relative to vehicle speed.

KEYTROLLER access monitoring devices not only offer driver accountability for damage caused by abusive impacts but also for unsafe speeds. Helping to create a "culture of safety" in your plant.
