JLT Mobile Computers AB plans to take over Tempe-based DAP Technologies Inc for the North American sales of its vehicle-mount terminals (VMT), effective from 1 January.
JLT began creating rugged designed systems in 1994, entered the US market initially in 1999 and, since 2007, has been the original design manufacturer of vehicle-mount terminals that DAP Technologies has sold under the DAP brand in North America.
JLT has formed a US subsidiary, JLT Mobile Computers Inc, to operate the 13-employee DAP organisation. Eric Miller will lead the JLT US business as chief executive officer. He was DAP vice president of sales.
JLT US will take over existing customer agreements, warranty commitments and services contracts for the DAP VMT products and existing reseller agreements and relationships.
The latest-generation logistics computer from publicly traded Växjö, Sweden-based JLT Mobile Computers is the JLT1214N, suitable for "tough environments from cold storage rooms to broiling hot sun, from fixed wall mounts to vibrating forklifts", JLT says.
"Since the company was founded, the US market has accounted for a substantial part of JLT's overall sales, thus constituting a key strategic market for JLT," says Per Holmberg, chief executive officer of JLT Mobile Computers AB. "Over time, we have formed a productive and close partnership based on mutual respect and trust with our US sales partner, so I'm thrilled to be working with this extraordinary team under this new structure."
Miller says, "Having our own local JLT sales office and experienced sales organisation will give US customers the benefit of working closely with the original design manufacturer while continuing to deal with the same local staff and benefit from the same local services and support."
DAP Technologies operates as a unit of publicly traded diversified technology firm Roper Industries Inc of Sarasota, Florida. Roper has other DAP units in Canada and the United Kingdom.
