There's been much discussion about the adoption of radio frequency identification (RFID). For RFID to be effective, it has to be adopted universally but it looks like everyone is waiting for someone else to make the first move. Perhaps the Wal-Mart initiative we report this week will be that trigger. As Roger Renstrom
reports, the giant retailer is demanding RFID for shipments to its Sam's Club subsidiary - and imposing a $3 per pallet "non-compliance levy" on suppliers who don't meet the requirement.
