ID Systems Inc has received a series of orders from its forklift supplier partner to deploy its PowerFleet vehicle management system (VMS) on fleets of industrial trucks at BMW Group's UK sites.
The value of the orders for the automotive manufacturer's UK plants in Hams Hall, Oxford and Swindon is confidential.
Heidrun Schulte, marketing manager of ID Systems GmbH, says BMW has strict security requirements for the wireless technology deployed that had to conform to local networks. "BMW also had some unique IT requirements related to software hosting and support that we were also able to meet."
ID Systems' strategic partner is the UK branch of one of the world's largest industrial truck manufacturers. Subsidiary ID Systems (UK) Ltd was also instrumental in securing the orders.
"We are very pleased to add the BMW Group as an end-user of our wireless technology, joining many other world-class automotive manufacturers in our customer base," says Jeffrey Jagid, ID Systems chairman and CEO.
A wireless VMS helps improve workplace safety and security by restricting vehicle access to trained, authorised operators, providing electronic vehicle inspection checklists and managing vehicle impacts.
The system also helps reduce industrial fleet maintenance costs by automatically uploading vehicle data, reporting vehicle problems electronically, scheduling maintenance according to actual vehicle usage rather than by calendar or manual data entry and helping determine the optimal economic time to replace equipment.
Headquartered in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey, with subsidiaries in Texas, Germany, and the United Kingdom, ID Systems is a global provider of wireless machine-to-machine solutions for securing, controlling, tracking, and managing assets, including rental cars, industrial vehicles, trailers, containers and cargo.
