Konecranes has previously supplied one RMG and three STS cranes to Muuga Container Terminal.

Konecranes has received an order for two rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes and two straddle carriers from Estonian firm AS Muuga Container Terminal (Muuga CT).

Konecranes previously delivered three ship-to-shore cranes and one rail-mounted gantry (RMG) crane to Muuga CT. The straddle carriers will be delivered this year, while the RTGs will arrive in 2013. Both parties are keeping the order value confidential.

"We selected Konecranes due to our good experience with the previous deliveries of quay cranes and the RMG crane that we already have in our terminal," says Erik Laidvee, chairman of the board of Transiidikeskuse AS. "The local service has been excellent, and we are very happy with the fast response time whenever we have needed assistance from Konecranes."

Muuga CT, a multifunctional container terminal handling both containers and ro-ro cargo in the port of Muuga, is wholly owned by Transiidikeskuse AS. Muuga CT will be merged with Transiidikeskuse AS by the end of May. The container terminal has an annual capacity of 450,000 TEUs and there are plans to expand it.

Konecranes sales director - port cranes Erkki Salminen says the manufacturer's local service branch will continue playing an important role in co-operating with Muuga CT. "It will make sure that the equipment runs in an optimum way to help the customer reach their capacity expansion targets."

The RTG cranes are equipped with the latest Konecranes technology, including the "autosteering" feature, which keeps the crane on a pre-programmed straight driving path, for enhanced safety and increased productivity. Container handling efficiency is boosted by the "autostop" feature, which assists the driver by automatically stopping the crane in the correct position for the target container or slot.

The BOXRUNNER straddle carriers are of one-over-one diesel electric design. They have a speed of 30 km/h (19 mph), and four wheels out of six are driven.
