CeMAT, the world's leading fair on intralogistics and materials handling, is being held for the first time ever in Australia at Sydney Olympic Park this week.

With around 100 exhibitors, the event showcases the latest developments in materials handling and transport logistics along with innovation in process improvement, including the role of automation in engineering the warehouses of the future.

It features an exhibition covering five specialist areas and a conference led by industry experts.

Forkliftaction.com News, spoke to some of the Australian exhibitors about their first day at the event.

Daniel Ng, marketing manager for forklift supplier Adaptalift Group, tells Forkliftaction.com News he's excited about participating.

"We are really enjoying the first-ever CeMAT in Australia. It has been quite a lot of effort to set up for the show but we are really happy with how our stand turned out as we feel it really showcases who the Adaptalift Group is and what we stand for.

"So far we've seen and spoken to a range of customers and other industry leaders, so it is really great to see people coming out and having a conversation and seeing the new products, services and innovations coming through," he says.

The company is exhibiting a range of equipment at its stand, from Hyster equipment to unique products such as ground support equipment for the aviation industry.

"We are also doing live demos of our ForkTrack fleet management and safety system, as well as showing off interesting new technology we have developed including video analytics,3D tracking and visualisation applications," says Ng.

Cascade national sales manager Rob Whitmore tells Forkliftaction.com News that he didn't come to CeMAT with great expectations due to the general downturn in tradeshow attendance in the past, but has been pleased by a constant flow of customers so far.

"We have made some good contacts, so it's been worthwhile in terms of what our expectation was," he says.

The company has set up a technical display at the event, and is showcasing its damage-reduction strategies, mechanical attachments and a new paper roll clamp that has been designed specifically for small-run printers.

"Another new product is our magnetic layer picker that allows picking of more delicate steel-capped products such as cans and bottles that can't be clamped," adds Whitmore.

Paul Horsnell of Combilift Australia says while attendance at the show has been a bit slower than anticipated, he is quite happy with the quality of people coming in. "The right people are definitely attending the show - but not as many as we'd have liked."

He says the company's large container handler at the front entrance of CeMAT has garnered attention along with two multi-directional units on display which are ideal for warehouses where customers are looking to increase productivity and efficiency.

Mike Davey, MD of Spacepac Industries, tells Forkliftaction.com News the company is exhibiting its new DEC-Modena range of battery electric units.

CeMAT ends on Thursday afternoon.
