At the back of the new emco converter did you crank the engine and then take the plug out and see if you here gas for a few seconds that will tell you gas is getting to the converter it wont be much pressure but you should here it
The vac hose going to the carb has no hole. I put a gauge on it and sucked it. And it held. The hose going to the top of the valve cover is coming off of the intake manifold has good vac while cranking.
I would agree with you but they say it starts on starting fluid. so l would think the motor is good
Don't mean to just jump in but, apply vac manually to the lockoff if you haven't, you should have tank pressure. Is the button stiff on the converter? Sounds stupid, if so replace it. I was around when these trucks were new. Parts are so cheap I would just change all three, lockoff, converter, and carb. I hate going back. If no vacuum continues, these Mazda are the only engine I have even seen that the valves tighten up on. Leads to poor vacuum and ultimately no compression. Seen guys condemn engines over valve adjustment. Let me know. Kiss it!
Are you getting gas to the emco converter and are you getting vac to the motor. Also make sure the hose going to the carb does not have any small hole in it.
So first thing I did was try to start it with starting fluid with the tank off. It ran for a second but it ran so I know it's a fuel problem. Hooked up a vacuum gauge and turned vehicle over and nothing. Removed the car wear or impco model 100. Took it apart and cleaned it. Put it all back together and re-installed. Hooked vacuum gauge up and still nothing. Hooked the hose up and tried starting on starting fluid and it ran for a sec.
I will try to help you first off you will not see or feel gas when you take off that hose the secondary from the emco converter is lowering the pressure to about 1/2 pound gas pressure also it is a negative pressure system the engine must be cranking to draw to draw gas into the carb. The best way to tell if this is a gas problem would be to turn off the tank and get some starting fluid spray just a very small amount in the air cleaner and see if the truck turns over if it will not start on starting fluid l would say you dont have a gas problem. If it starts check to make sure you are getting gas on the back side of the emco converter there is a 7/16plug turn the tank on and crank the engine stop cranking and take the plug out you should here gas for a few seconds if not then make sure you are getting gas to the converter make sure the vac fuel lock hose is connected to the carb crack the line coming to the vacuum lock make sure you have vacuum it takes 3inches of vacuum to open the fuel lock. make sure your carb diaphragm is not stuck and has no hole in it. if you still have problem get back to me and we will go from here. Good luck.
