I really hope someone can help me. I have a Toyota 7FGCU30 with a 4Y LP gas engine. It starts, idles for about 20 seconds and then dies. If you try to give it gas it stalls, but restarts and will idle again for 20 seconds. Any ideas, I'm out of them.
Thank you
Stan

We have replaced a few distributor assemblies on Toyota's. Its easier to put a new assembly on then try to patch up/repair the old one. Just a heads up
ok guys i thank you very much for your input. i found that if i took a distributor from a running truck it runs like a top. But now i have to figure out whats wrong in the distributor. i have a truck with a bad flywheel needing repair it's going to give up its distributor for now.
again i thank you very much for helping me think this problem through and all your ideas helped a lot.
thanks again

Rick,
this truck has a simple engine thats my problem i'm baffled it's so simple and i can't figure it out.no fancy electionics 2 wires to distributor, 2 wires to regulator, temp sensor wire, oil pressure wire.....like a 1957 chevy....even plane old vacuum advance..LOL It's the LP part i'm not use to.
if this truck has a throttle cable first check (pull on) the wires at the distributor and when you are absolutely certain that they are not broken rebuild the regulator. if it has no cable but instead has an eletric governor there should be a light flashing on the dash after the engine dies. i have seen this problem caused by a worn distributor gear causing chatter. the other thing to look for is a safety shut down system. this will be two relays and a timer and will look for oil pressure and over temp.

oh I wish it was that simple. I took the tank and the lines up to the regulator off a truck that was running got the same results. I did notice if I disconnected the vacuum line to the PCV valve and cover it half way it idles.I see an adjustment screw on the regulator next to where the vacuum line connects and 2 adjustment screws big and small on the carb is there a procedure to set these. I think about a dozen people played with this truck before I was informed there was a problem.
thanks again

I agree with rick c,
Check the simple things first. Make sure you don't have a bad propane tank???
i have to ask the obvious, did you look for an extra oring in the hose end of the tank coupler?
you are describing "classic" symptoms
explain ECS??..power to the regulator stays on until it stops and power to the distributor stays on too. it seems to be not getting gas.i have 15" of vacuum at the aisan regulator too....at the small vacuum line
is it an ecs engine, if it is check relays under left floor panel , I had the same thing corrosion ruined relays, one for throttle, one for regulator or solenoid, and a bunch of other ones
