Discussion:
won't run

the engine won't run.
When the key is in crank position the engine starts and runs as long as the key is held there.
When I let go of the key and the key is in run position the engine dies.
This lift had this issue before, and a different distributor was installed, and seemed to fix the problem at that time.
I will have this lift tomorrow to look at. any help is appreciated.

if i had worked on the truck i worked on yesterday and knew what i found out on these trucks i may have suggested looking at the ignition wiring. Yesterday i had one of these that would start and run but ran crappy when accelerated, missing and cutting out....
turns out it was the same problem that you found, the wires to the distributor were previously repaired with a half-aced splice job and the wires were coming apart and had rubbed and gotten exposed.
I repaired the wiring and the truck ran like a champ afterwards ;o)

good job bowler

Problem was the wire to the Distributor. The shielding was touching the wire.

I agree with rogeriwt but also check the new distributor. I have had multiple dist issues with these trucks where the tach pickup stops working- just because the dist is newer don't disregard it as a possible cause

Customers love technology- until they have to pay to fix it!
Check the wires harness at the distributor. They are known for breaking the small wire which send the tack signal to the ecm to run the truck. If the small wire is broken Toyota offers a replacement. If you try to repair it be careful because it is a shielded wire and if you crimp the shield in the connector it will have the same problem.
