Hyster E120XL:
Won't lift higher than 30 inches

Won't lift higher than 30 inches every time, everything else works, new pumps.
Would the check valve in the bottom of the rod cause this? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Jason,

If the lift runs on a 36 volt battery, the voltage should be reading 37 to 38 volts charged. If it reads 36 volts the battery needs to be charged. The hydraulic tank is under the operator floor board. Could be on the left or right side. With mast fully lowered check the dipstick. Top off tank until full. Should take hydraulic oil 32, newer lifts take 46.

The hard to do we do right away. The impossible just takes a little longer.
Okay, both pumps are running, oil is full and battery is at 40%

Jason,

Those switches should be turning on the pump motor as soon as they are pushed. Since this is an electric lift, what is the battery voltage and have you checked the oil level? Thanks.

There is no switch to press. Theres a cover below the control handles, behind the cover there are rods connecting the handles to the control valve. it looks like each function only has one switch?

Yes, you will need to press the switch to go higher than the preset limit.

Do the switches on the control levers work work like limit switches?

Jason,

The lift should have a main pressure at 3000 PSI. Even with the pressure at 2000psi the forks should raise up and down the full length of the rails. Check the handles going to the valve and make sure nothing is broken. You could have a failed hydraulic line that is causing a partial blockage. Please verify the hydraulic oil is at the proper level. Good Luck

Hyd oil is full with new filter
Carriage rollers appear to be in tact and there is no foreign debris

The carriage will raise 20 inches and will slow down after 15 inches or so. After the carriage stops I release the lift lever and give it a second and pull the lift lever again, it will go up another foot and stop and will not go any higher. The pressure will read anywhere from 1k to 2500psi at that time.

1- yes, it is new to me
2- yes, it did
It does not have a limit switch on the mast. There are no buttons on or around the lift switch and the lift cylinder has no external dents or signs of damage.

This has primary and secondary relief valves. 2k psi is the most i've been able to get out of it even after dead heading the lift line.

A couple of questions
1- is this unit new to you ? Have you had it a while ?
2- did it lift higher in the past?

I ask because some units had a lift shut off at set height for certain customers a limit switch
Mounted on mast to cut it off at a set height
Also had a button on the lift lever you pushed to over ride the lift limit of set height
If not then look at lift cyl tube for dents
If it was damaged it will only go to the height of the ding and stop the rod from passing
The damaged area

Jason,

Let's start with basics. Hydraulic fluid level will affect lifting height. Have you completed a pressure check after installing new pumps? I assume there is nothing stuck in the mast or any broken rollers. Suspect something has come apart inside the cylinder to cause an exact stop. Make sure to replace all internal valves. Good Luck
