Just a thought - who really is doing the most profitable, quality business, growing their business base commercially not just market share wise in the 'non manufacturer' category, lets debate Nationwide and regional, up North, East, West and in the South?.. or is it all about the manufacturers nowadays? Have the independents had more recent success? Like I said just a thought.........

Misterlift is right companies pay to have good thing's wrote about them and they move quickly if they don't like what is written. just look back a number of months a go a northern company did not want anything bad written about them so the stooped post about them being posted it turns out that they were looking at a £100mil deal and this would not go down well with them,so they stopped people having a opinion about them. This opinion might of been right or wrong. So companies will only tell you what they want to hear. The best way to find out about how well a company is doing is to do a company search into there accounts then you will really how they stand. As for Briggs lets see how there masters over the pond will react in 5 years time when trucks come of lease with large balloons and big losses. It is easy to make money today then try to hide the losses tomorrow
Bit of stick for me there then , sounds like MrLift has been to a MAX CLIFFORD breakfast club could be his scene. The Millreef point is well made but CAT is an earthmoving brand and never been a good forklift truck ever. Stop sounding so bitter about Richard Close he only gets £350 K p.a.and Briggs did make a fiver 2 years ago , its even been framed. If your`e still not happy MRLift can get you in at ATLET uuuuhhhzzzzzzzzz
Oileak, think you need a reality check. The Monkey metal you refer to is also manufactured in the USA and is a far superior product than that made by the Coal Company. Any one can buy business and as for Yale increasing their market share, not difficult when prior to BRIGGS they only sold around a few hundred trucks per year in the UK. The CEO speaks with fork tongue when he says they have not lost any customers. Then again-
"Never let the facts stand in the way of a good story"
Oileak. You surely don't believe that which is written in the trade press is independent do you?
These organizations employ PR agencies to write articles on their behalf which are spoon fed into the media. The editors simply 'cut and paste' into their own media simply making sure that they are seen to be fair by spreading space amongst the ones who spend money on advertising with them
The fact that you believe what you read is confirmation that this system works extremely well
I think it will be assembly of large components. Going back to the premier league Briggs will fit in well Owned by Americans laden with debt sound's a bit like Gillette and Hicks and we all no how successful that was. What will be interesting is who will be Man City
Millreef. Well the trade press does not agree with you infact since
Briggs took on Yale and ditched the NIPPON product they have increased their market with new orders that Monkey metal could not touch. As for the dealer nettwork i understand Briggs partner Forkway are doing more trucks than the lot of them put together. Me thinks you need a new job perhaps in Newmarket but beware of the WHIPS.
Manufacturing or assembly of large components?
That's interesting were are they to be based in the Ipswich area. This will make there truck more expensive. they will need something good to compete with the likes of Toyota Linde and junghienrich. They won't be able to compete with Doosan,Hyundia, clark on price from the UK. i thought they owned the plant in Taiwan. They must be confident in the product range
What is much more interesting is that Nexen are to shift manufacturing to the UK
Now that takes courage.
According to the latest announcement from Briggs CEO after five years in charge they have moved up into the Premier League!!
Cost of promotion - firing 2 sales directors, two operations directors, 2 HR directors, 4 GM's, reducing fleet by 50% not to mention a decimated dealer network and truck care business.
Now as I understand all their star strikers have left for that Bundesliga outfit!!
As the MU fans often chant - PREMIER LEAGUE, YOU'RE HAVING A LAUGH !!!!!!!!
Scouse you sound like you work at Pimblo if so it was always about the DIVI after all it was YER WHA country who invented the word anyway with the POOLS littlewoods and Vernons. Hand your notice in next week, i would, tell them how you feel if you dont then you need a good talking too. Liam Fox did it when he hit rock BOTTOM.
Not even Uefa cup Henley, also teetering on the brink of relegation
Sorry to hear of your issues Scouse, but I am intrigued...
So what part of the Champions League of UK Independent's does your Company sit at Scouse?
Second question is did we "mention the Company who employs me" in the original list?
On your points regarding the "magic PO number" I have to say that this is part of the general cultural issue which your industry suffers, that is short term gain, rather than longer term strategic 'win win' plans which enable Customer retention and profitable growth, whilst retaining satisfied Customers' who are at less risk of you losing due to panic management and a 'rip off' mentality to cover deeper Forklift Co failings financially.
So who are the top five UK top independents - the best, not just the biggest? Over to you chaps.... ?
I thought somebody would mention the company who employs me. They have ridden one recession, with a little waste trimmed from the bulging wage bill we survived.
For that I am grateful. Started to progress slightly after that global hiccup and make some more money.
Any monkey can find chargeable work, its not rocket science. The art is obtaining that magic PO number. Without that you might as well not bother finding any.
feel calmer now..
If you want to grow your company then Windsor might have a better strategy to grow. I have noticed that know one has mentioned Cooper they are building a very good business that is national in larger trucks ware there is much more profit and a lot less competition. So it might be what is the best area to be in Junghierich , Crown and to a extent Toyota are all looking at the warehouse and small truck market to build the companies on
Of the list above, you are mixing national dealers (or those who aspire to be national) with very regional ones - it can never be a fair comparison.
Talking of aspirations, interesting to see Windsor on the list - a local Company strong in their own area who are now reaching into other territories. Compare this to DGP or Glosrose who seem happy just to provide a service in their own area with no ambition outside of it. Who is right? Which is the best strategy? That is a more interesting debate.
Up north it could be CAM based on their website full of Sizzle but the pan holds only fried bread so its Perkin Industrial for me.
This is going to be good.
Who is the top independent by units sold, growth, coverage, parent group strength, reputation, years in business, brand strength, locations in UK, ? ? who's the BEST not just the biggest.!
