TRANNY FILTER DEVELOPS LEAK

I HAVE A CUSTOMER WITH A HYSTER S60XM D187# THAT KEEPS CHANGING TRANSMISSION OIL FILTERS EVERY 45 DAYS DUE TO A HOLE DEVELOPING IN THE FILTER ITSELF. AS FAR AS I KNOW THIS TRANNY DOES NOT HAVE A BREATHER SO WHERE ELSE SHOULD I LOOK?

If you use a OEM filter it will not leak. I'm a service manager at a hyster dealership. I see this all the time. If you put on a OEM you will not have the problem.

sounds like just the opposite of how we used to keep track of oil changes for old Detroit diesel 3 cylinders. when it STOPPED leaking, it was time to add/change oil.

"it's not rocket surgery"
LOL, the leaking engine filter is how I keep track of pm's.

If it leaks, it's time to drop the oil :-)

just had a thought. check that the engine is not overspeeding/overevving. that can cause too high a pressure in the transmission. easy first check

pressures too high. remove the control block and make sure all the springs and spools are ok. must be something sticking
. can,t quite remember but i think the filter is in the lubrication circuit. i,ll look it up if you need

hello Mike, yes it's just a pinhole at the seems that develops. my customer also states that when he installs a new filter it usually starts to leak from the bottom like when it's the gasket or not tighten enough. he then gives it a few turn to tighten and that stops that leak. then 30 - 45 days later the pinhole develops at the seems. what do you think?

What kind of a hole?
Is the filter popping/splitting open?

Just a pinhole?

I've had tons of these filters leak at the seam, over the years...
