I just purchased an older forklift (seems to function fine for what I need) but want to learn more about it. There are no labels or tags anywhere I could find. A loose tag was caught in the hood hinge that has the following.
WDW - AF 9HD
79 8 551A
Does this go with a 70s hard tire forklift? It has a 4 cyl engine with 5R on the valvecover.
any information is helpful, it has a few leaks that I need to address, hopefully not too expensive.

I am not ready to start scrapping paint yet. There is a flat spot (maybe 2"x12" with bolt holes at the ends) on the counterweight that looks like a name would be there but nothing. It is a mystery that I will solve over time. Thanks for the ideas and encouragement.
I agree with the above Model/Serial # locations. You might have to scrape the old paint off the frame in those areas to find the #'s. They are STAMPED right into the frame ( No tag plate). If it's an older unit it may have been painted allot of times over the years.
5R is a Toyota engine designation, but that doesn't mean it is a Toyota machine.Engines got sold all over the place and still are.
I would expect to find the makers name cast into the counterweight of most trucks.
I have looked both places with work light, have not found anything yet, will have another look on sunny day. Thanks for the ideas. It looks like it has a couple of coats of paint on top of factory paint.
Most Toyota serial #s are stamped an the horizontal part of the frame on the right hand side close to the air filter or nearest the counterweight.
Most Toyotas I have seen stamp the model and serial number on the frame. Not sure on that old of model but the later ones are stamped on the front of the frame between the mast and the cab close to the tilt cylinder on left side if you were sitting in the truck. If it is not there I am almost sure it is somewhere on the frame.
