hard to steer

i have a 585c forklift. it was hard to steer so i put a new pump on that didint help rebuilt the steering cylinders and it is still hard to steer. i can jack it up and it steers. but on the ground it wont. if im moving and have the motor rpms up it kinda steers but not easy. maybe a bad pump or the steering box

Which pump did you replace? The pump on the side of the engine is probably the problem. Check your steering linkage also grease your king pins top and bottom too. When you replace the steering pump be sure and fill it with oil and turn the drive gear a few times before installing it to break it in, Case had a problem with some of the pumps in that era that would burn out as soon as they were installed on first start up.
