Discussion:
VW to drop forklift engine from range

I have heard that VW will stop production of the engines used in forklifts. Anyone else heard this? What engine will the german manufactures use? Maybe the kubota supplied through PSI.

Last year there was a press release on Deutz's website regarding the increased partnership between the two companies including the development of a new engine for the material handling industry. This will be a 2.2l 3 cylinder diesel or LPG/gas engine. Currently VW engines are still in Linde products 5t and under, Deutz in the 5t-8t, MTU in the 1411 where emmissions matter, Perkins where they don't, cummins in the 1401. Deutz will probably replace the VW by early 2018 as the engine was only completed and presented Q2 2016. There will then be time to build and fit into the Linde, production of engines and coupling parts etc. I for one can't wait to see the end of VW. No timing belt no problems!

I know the new 1411 use MTU or Perkins and the 1401 use Cummins but i thought some one said the smaller truck were to go to Deutz as well as the bigger trucks

I think the big stuff like 8 tonne upwards use deutz. 7 tonne and under use the vw common rail. Gas trucks use the mk2 golf 1.8 8 valve with a later ignition system and later engine management system.

Linde use vw car engines, the PD and the new common rail. Linde are around 4-5 years behind whatever the cars are using so they'll never be short of an engine.

It has not happened with the auto industry, maybe it will on the industrial side.

As the emissions requirements get tighter & tighter this shuffling of engines will become more prevalent. I wouldn't be surprised if the US & Europe adopt some sort of world standard for emissions to standardize the current shell game the manufacturers have to play now

Customers love technology- until they have to pay to fix it!
The engine will be based on the car engine so production would not stop.

KION would have been the largest customer,so it would depend on other customers now taking on the engine.

North America and Asia would not be good markets for the VW engine but Europe and Germany would.
